A very Jonas Christmas movie review

I’ll assume you know of the band Jonas Brothers, if you don’t shame on you, you did not watch enough Jonas Brothers on the Disney Chanel back in the day. If you still don’t know them, let me catch you up. They were a big hit in the middle and late 2000s whilst also staring in their own TV-show on the Disney channel, and a series of Disney original movies called Camp Rock. They sadly broke up during the middle of the 2010s, but eventually got back together after reconciling in 2019. And ever since, they have continued making movies, albums and being brothers, dads and husbands. They also released a Christmas movie;

A very Jonas Christmas.

All about their very unnormal normal life, where they must get home to Christmas to see their families. It sounds like an easy journey, but it’s going to be far from that, and put their relationship at a near braking point once again. Can they stick together long enough to find their way home, or will the band and their relationship break again?

 Across the journey they’ll fight, get cursed by Santa Clause, see super-Fan Will Ferrel, find old friends, crash land and a lot more, all to find their way back home.

If you’ve ever had a brother, either an older or younger, you know how hard it can be. Sometimes they can be annoying, hurtful, rude, but also a blessing, a joy to be around and your best friend. For a lot of people (not saying I’m one of them, but maybe) we remember their break-up and the years after, when they barely spoke to each other. And this movie feels like it starts as a precursor to another break-up. Where they fight and bicker and struggle to communicate. Instead of going home and having one big Christmas party together, they want to go their separate ways. This movie leans into their history, and tries to help you heal and recover. They start out as I said bickering and in bad spirits which doesn’t help when your plane explodes and strands you in London, and it only gets worse as the movie goes on thanks to a little curse put on them by Santa Clause. But you know what can put you in the mood to finally talk and show how you feel? The aftermath of a plane crash; they survive, but the whole ordeal and the whole movie has helped them talk and share how they feel with each other.

And instead of wanting to go their separate tours or even split up again they want to celebrate Christmas together as one family under one roof – Will Ferell not included. And they do, and from how the movie ends they all look happy enjoying each other’s company, singing, and just spending Christmas together. Which is the most important time of the year (and I will fight you on it, sorry).

It might not be the best movie, it probably won’t win an Oscar, but it’s still a fun, cringy, cozy, Christmas movie that you put on after Mariah Carey says it’s time and starts the Christmas season. It’s something you can watch to get into the holiday mood and to just have fun for an hour. To add to that it also has a good cast.

All four of the Jonas Brothers are there of course, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Chloe Bennet, Will Ferrel, Priyanka Chopra and more. And they all have good chemistry and seem to have fun together. I don’t even think Will was acting during the movie, he might just be an over-the-top Jonas fan. Outside of that the movie has some moments with good and bad writing, some better moments then others, but that’s a Christmas movie for you, they are usually not 10/10, and neither is this. So as a former and maybe current Jonas’ fan I`ll rate it at least an 8, depending on if I watch it again, I might lower it, but in the end, it was a good holiday movie.

So, for now, Happy holidays from me and Unikum, good luck on your exams, holiday shopping, gift wrapping and whatever else Christmas traditions you might have. For those on exchange and won’t return, we will miss you greatly and we hope you come back. Till next time, have yourself a merry little Christmas.
