#LEADER: Start of Something New
Welcome, new and old students to a new semester and a new study year here at University of Agder! And yes, if you’re wondering that is a High School Musical reference in the title. But despite the ludicrous nature of those movies, something holds true in this instance, if Troy and Gabriella never took the chance to go to that party, well, we would never have had this ridiculous fun trilogy on our hands.
Is this a coy plot to lure you, dear reader, to watch High School Musical? No, but if you suddenly got an urge to binge them, well, as Bob Ross said: “We don’t make mistakes, just happy accidents”. No, the message here, coming from someone who’s been here for SIX years(!), don’t let every opportunity you’re presented with pass you by! If you get an invitation to an event, can participate in a student union, or even participate in various research projects, don’t reject them all.

Half of the experience here at university won’t come to you, you’ll have to actively seek it out, or even create it. I think many of us are so used to just going with the flow, being presented with such opportunities that we forget our own agency, that sometimes we carve our own path.
So, this semester, as with every new semester, it’s the start of something new, whether you’re an returning or new student. Experience, try out and treasure new things. For some it’s so fun we struggle to let go. And trust me, you don’t want to look back after six years and look at alle the opportunities you let go. You can outlive a few bad hangovers, some sleepless nights, and a smidge of stress, but the regrets, you can never outlive those.
