In the night from February 8 to 9, starting at 12:30 a.m., the biggest annual event in American football took place. During the 60th Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara the Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots 29–13, celebrating their second Lombardi Trophy in the club’s history. But the night was about more than just the game itself; Millions of viewers from all around the world also tuned in for the highly anticipated halftime show led by Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny who used his stage to highlight the power of togetherness and love throughout the whole American continent. The article will start with taking a closer look at the game and then move on to take a closer look at the halftime show.

Super Bowl LX wasn’t the first time the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots had faced each other in a Super Bowl final. Eleven years ago, the two teams faced each other fighting for the Lombardi trophy for the first time when the New England Patriots managed to take home the win by a margin of only four points. This year, the Seahawks managed to get their revenge.

Both teams played strong defense in the first three quarters of the game, but only the Seahawks’ kicker, Jason Myers, managed to score for his team. He scored four field goals, securing a 12–0 lead for his team. The only touchdowns of the game occurred in the fourth quarter, with both teams managing to reach the opponents’ end zones twice. Myers also scored his record-breaking fifth field goal, making him the kicker with the most field goals ever in Super Bowl history and laying the groundwork for his team’s 29-13 victory.

Now the focus will shift towards the halftime show.

Super Bowl LX’s halftime show was led by Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny. Having just won the “Album of the Year” category at this year’s Grammys, Bad Bunny performed multiple songs from his award-winning album, “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS”, alongside other titles during the performance. It was the first time the headline act of the Super Bowl halftime show performed entirely in Spanish. Prominent guests like Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin also joined his outstanding performance that once again focused on making a political statement supporting love and unity across the whole American continent.

Bad Bunny had already used his voice at the Grammys a week earlier, stating the following during his award acceptance speech: “Before I say thanks to God, I’m going to say ICE out. We’re not savages, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens, we are humans and we are Americans … The only thing that’s more powerful than hate is love. So please, we need to be different. If we fight, we have to do it with love.”

His whole performance seemed to follow up on this statement. During his performance the audience could see Bad Bunny handing his Grammy trophy to a child, believed to represent himself as a kid. This delivered the message that you can allow yourself to dream big and achieve your dreams, no matter where you come from. The performance was played in a setting representing everyday life and traditions in Puerto Rico. His performance also included a real wedding scene emphasizing the importance of love.

At the end of his performance he stated: “God bless America!” and listed nearly all the countries in North and South America, from Chile to Canada, while his background dancers brought out every single flag. He had his mic-drop moment holding an American football displaying the words “Together, we are America” written on it into the camera before smashing it to the ground to end his performance. He then left the audience with the message “The only thing more powerful than hate is love.”, which appeared on the stadium’s LED scoreboard.

To sum up, Super Bowl LX showed us once again that sports and music at an event of this importance, have the power to bring people from multiple different cultures together to enjoy a night of entertainment for everyone while also serving as a platform for political statements later discussed by media around the world.
