A fun group of university students up to no good! They always want some fun yet they break the rule of Tarot because they really don´t believe in it, so why not? The fun stops when these predictions start becoming a reality, and in a very bizarre way, you start to witness the creepy and startling scenes that are going to make you jump out of your seat, a perfect blend of humor and horror to keep you entertained throughout.
A clever take is taken by the directors of the film Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg on how dealing with supernatural spirits can unleash evil results. Basic common sense rules are broken, like breaking into a locked room just for the heck of it and then playing with an unwritten rule of not using someone else’s Tarot deck to do a reading. This is said to be bad luck, but come on we don´t believe in that right? And we also don´t believe in this supernatural stuff! So by the way let´s just enjoy and have fun even if we don´t know what we are dealing with. Leo, Virgo, Pisces, Capricorn, and other zodiac signs come to shine to prove that they cannot shape their destiny. It was so funny to listen to specific characteristics about the zodiac signs and just being so Virgo, Leo, or Pisces that you are obviously predestined to take particular actions. To complement these differences, the directors used diversity in all the characters, which comforts the unrepresented minorities in mainstream movies. So, they did a good job making the characters feel like people we know and can relate to. Exciting and different also are the ways they start dying under very mysterious circumstances, and no Google formula for reversing the effects is working.
Does our life follow a predetermined path? Can we understand a person through their zodiac sign? Are we capable of changing our future? ‘Tarot’ will make you ponder these questions. It’s a movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat, so it’s best to watch it with someone. Give it a try, and be prepared for a twist at the very end, challenging your beliefs about life and astrology. I give it a 7/10.
