It’s Christmas time once again, the most wonderful time of the year, at least in my humble opinion. And what’s Christmas without Christmas movies. Watching the snow fall outside in the cold while you´re buried in a sea of warm blankets inside and just enjoying the weather and the warmth eroding from the fireplace. A perfect time to gather your friends and your family to watch and enjoy holiday Christmas movies together. And that’s what Unikum is here to recommend. Christmas movies from me, a born and raised Norwegian who grew up with a lot of these movies. To ensure you get a proper mix of movie recommendations, some classic Norwegian holiday movies,  and some imported classics from the US and the house of mouse. And if you have any suggest for what we should watch during Christmas be sure to comment on our social medias, we would love to hear it. Let’s get to it then shall we.

Olsenbanden

One of Norway’s all time classic film series. Olsenbanden. If you have lived in Norway during a Christmas season its highly likely you’ve already heard of Olsenbanden but if you haven’t, fret not. Olsenbanden is a comedy film series, usually shown on tv during the Christmas holidays. The 14 original movies came out from 1969 to 1999 and consisted of a group of friends known as the Olsenbanden. As they travel around Norway and parts of the wider world and go on heists. Usually ending up with the main character thrown in jail only for him to be released in the start of the next movie. In my house Olsenbanden is always something that’s put on during the holidays, my dad loves them and so does the rest of the family to. Their easy to watch, provide good comedic value and even after all these years are still highly watchable.

Flåklypa Grand Prix

Following along with Norwegian classics we of course have, Flåklypa Grand Prix. The most watched Norwegian created film, even 49 years after its release. Created using dolls and stop motion, Flåklypa stands the test of time and is a true classic in most Norwegian homes. The movie portrays a Grand Prix car race going trough the streets of their little quaint town Flåklypa. The main character trio sees Reodor Felgen alongside his two companions Solan and Ludvig as they try to build a car by themselves to compete in the Flåklypa Grand Prix and cross the finish line before their main rivals Rudolf Blodstrumpmoen. The movie provides action, suspense and comedy from start to finish and is always an excellent watch during the holiday season.

Mickey and friends – classics

Something different then Norwegian classics, but classics all the same and some of my personal favorite Christmas movies. We have three picks all centered around some of the same characters, namely Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and his lovely companions. First off, we have Mickey’s once upon a Christmas, a direct to DVD classic centered around the importance of family, love and good deeds. Another classic follows with Mickey’s magical Christmas. After a snowstorm hit their town, Mickey, friends and even villains have to spend Christmas underneath one roof and learn to celebrate Christmas together. Overall, a pretty magical movie. The last movie from my side and who guess it, yet another Disney Mickey mouse movie, this time Mickey’s Christmas carol. The oldest of the bunch, Christmas carol follows Ebenezar Scrooge (Scrooge McDuck) as he becomes witness to what his stubbornness and lack of generosity has done to his workers. A sad movie with a wonderful ending showcasing what every vastly wealthy business person should do to their employees.
