We’ve all been there.
You go and ask your dad who’s sitting in his usual chair, what exactly does he wish for Christmas. And he answers: nice kids.
Don’t worry! Whether it’s your chill dad, or your kind friend who has no idea what they want for Christmas, us in Unikum have gathered some tips for all of you, to make Christmas shopping a little easier. I must admit, I’m not completely innocent either. Sometimes when my parents ask me what I want for Christmas, I just cannot come up with anything. So, maybe you could get some ideas for yourself as well! We will start a bit more trivial, before moving to a bit more meaningful present.
A Christmas Sweater (hopefully an ugly one)
The stores are full of them, and if your grumpy grandpa doesn’t want anything, then you can at least gift him some Christmas spirit. Besides, it will look amazing on family pictures. This gift also works if you have no idea what to get someone. It’s appropriate, and most people won’t go out of their way to buy one for themselves. Thus, your gift will be greatly appreciated!
A reusable water bottle
Again, most people won’t buy these themselves. Do you know how much money you could save by investing in a good reusable water bottler. And I’m not just talking about a small plastic one, that you forget the first place you leave it. If you get this as a gift for someone, buy them a proper one, that keeps the water cool, even when the days get warm and long. Some might think of it as a boring choice, but it is a classic gift that will help them more than they think.
A board game
We all love them, but again, rarely buy them. I believe a board/card game is the perfect gift for someone who doesn’t want anything. If it’s a difficult family member, then you are gifting them an excuse to hang out with other people. I have great memories of playing board games with my family, and you’re not just gifting them a game; you’re gifting them laughter, brain exercise and found memories. In Unikum we love board games, and some of my personal favourites are Risk, Cluedo, Scrabble and Sequence.
A gift card
Let’s be honest. It’s exhausting trying to come up with super clever gifts for everyone you know. Sometimes we just don’t have time, especially if you’re a student, busy with exams for all of November and December. If your present recipient doesn’t want anything, give them the opportunity to get themselves what they want. Most shopping malls offer gift card that work in all their stores. If you want to get a bit more specific, get them a gift card from a store you know that they shop a lot from. Great examples are: bookstores (yes, please), wellness stores and hobby shops. You can also give them gift cards from experiences, for instance for cinemas or a good day at the spa.
A recipe book
Do you ever get tired of asking someone what it is for dinner, or having to come up with ideas yourself? Fear not, a cookbook can give you excellent inspiration to start cooking nice meals. By gifting someone a recipe book, you can make their future dinner a little bit more interesting! We all need to mix things up every once in a while.
A bracelet from 4Ocean
What is so special about 4Ocean? They make all their bracelet from recycled plastic they have picked from the ocean. So, not only do you get a fancy accessory, but you are also contributing to save the environment. This gift is not just for women, as they have a “gifts for him” page on their website. Not only do they make bracelets, but also shoes, tote bags and skateboards! An excellent choice if you want your gift to be both creative and environmentally friendly.
A goat
This gift is a bit different, since your recipient doesn’t get anything physical themselves. The Norwegian Refugee Council allow you to purchase gifts that will greatly impact people who are more unfortunate than us. For just 400 kr you can purchase a goat for a poor family, that will provide them with milk, and the ability to provide for themselves in challenging times. With the purchase you are also allowed to write a letter to the family. Not everyone is lucky enough to celebrate Christmas in safe home, and maybe the best thing to gift someone who actually doesn’t want anything for Christmas, is to give to someone who needs it more than us. The Norwegian Refugee Council also allow you to buy schoolbooks for children or donate to help people get access to clean water.
I hope you enjoyed these gift ideas. Hopefully they have made your life a little bit easier or given you some ideas for yourself. Have a merry Christmas, and a happy new year. We will see you next year!
